CASFIS Symposium 2026 2nd Circular(December 7-11 Shanghai)
Chinese Academy of Sciences
Youth-Led Vanguard International Symposium
Toward Sub-micro-arcsecond Astrometry: Scientific Opportunities and Measurement Pathways
SECOND CIRCULAR
Following the First Circular, we are pleased to provide an update on the scientific program and participation arrangements for the symposium. Funded by the Bureau of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and hosted by the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO), the meeting will bring together international experts and early-career researchers to explore scientific opportunities and measurement pathways toward sub-micro-arcsecond astrometry.
Dates: December 7–11, 2026
Venue: Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, CAS, 80 Nandan Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai, China
Registration deadline: October 31, 2026
Website: https://conf.koushare.com/conf/casfis-smastro2026/
The symposium will focus on the science enabled by astrometry at micro- and sub-micro-arcsecond precision; future measurement approaches involving instrument concepts, detectors, laser metrology, calibration, and observing strategies; and relativistic astrometric modeling with ephemeris support. A concluding open discussion will examine scientific priorities, technical bottlenecks, and a possible roadmap for future space-based missions and international collaboration.

Registration. Online registration is required for all participants and closes on October 31, 2026. There is no registration fee. Participants are normally responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and personal expenses. Please register via the Online Registration page.
Oral contributions. Participants interested in giving a short presentation (approximately 10–15 minutes) are encouraged to submit their talk title and abstract during registration. Contributions will be reviewed by the Scientific Organizing Committee.
Early-career support. Subject to the availability of symposium funds and the decision of the Scientific Organizing Committee, limited financial support may be offered to approximately five outstanding postdoctoral researchers or PhD students with selected oral contributions. Interested applicants should contact the organizers directly.
Online participation. Participants unable to attend in person may join via Zoom. Access details will be provided in advance.
Accommodation and transportation. Participants are asked to arrange their own accommodation. Suggested hotels near SHAO and directions from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport/Railway Station and Shanghai Pudong Airport are available on the Hotel Reservation and Transportation pages. Advance booking is recommended.
Visa invitation letters. Participants who require an official invitation letter for a Chinese visa should register and contact the Local Organizing Committee as early as possible. Required passport and itinerary information is listed on the Contact Us page. Please verify the latest entry and visa requirements with the appropriate authorities.
