Abstract:
The Carnegie-Irvine Nearby Galaxies Survey (CINGS) project consists of about 600 nearby bright galaxies of different morphologies in the southern hemisphere. We observed the B, V, R, I-band images for all the galaxies with the 2.5-m du Pont telescope at Las Campanas. We described the measurement method and the results of the isophotal surface brightness profiles and the related physical parameters of the galaxies in our sample. First, we created the composite profiles for different galaxy types and gave a simple statistical result on the frequency of different profiles. Then the bars of the disk galaxies were analyzed here. We studied the bar properties (e.g., the bar length, strength etc.) and their correlations with other physical parameters of the main galaxy. The lopsidedness and the profile breaks of the disk galaxies and its dependence on other quantities were also investigated and discussed.
